This all-ages, family-friendly event will take place on Earth Day and will combine running or walking for a cause with the opportunity to discover the amazing animals and habitats throughout Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport. As in years past, runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. The day will begin with the ever-popular Kids' Fun Run, a free, non-competitive, quarter-mile race open to children in grade 6 and younger. Following the kids' race, adults can complete a computer-timed, winding 5K run or walk through the zoo. For those who wish to tackle a shorter course, debuting this year is the untimed, non-competitive, and open-to-all-abilities 1.5K Wellness Walk. Registration for the 4th Annual Healthy Families 5K Run and Walk will close at 500 participants, so early sign-up is highly encouraged.
Those registered by April 18 are $25 for ages 19 and up and $18 for ages 13 to 18; participants ages 12 and under are only $12. Advance registration will officially close at 8 p.m. on April 18. Group pricing is available for groups of 10 or more. Westport Woman’s Club’s Art Show, curated by Miggs Burroughs, opens to the
public. Singer Melissa Newman will perform
at Saturday’s opening reception. Chair Jo Fuchs Luscombe notes this year’s Art
Show honors late artist Bobbie Friedman, wife of Drew Friedman. This annual
show, featuring local artists, seeks to generate sales for them and funds
for need-based college scholarships for Staples High School seniors.
2018 artists, whose works will be available for purchase, include Jen Greely, Bernie Perry, Nancy Moore, Roseann Spengler, Leonor Dao Turut, Kerry Heftman, Sam Abelow, Sue Benton, Jo Titsworth, Dale Najarian, Carlos Davilla, Holly Hawthorne, Noah Steinman, and Karen Ford. Art by Honoree Bobbie Friedman will be available for viewing, not purchase.
Admission to the Westport Woman’s Club Art Show at 44 Imperial Ave. is free and open to the public. Thirty percent of sales will benefit need-based scholarships for Staples seniors, including new Westport Woman’s Club-administered scholarships, funded by The Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, Inc., benefitting Staples seniors who have financial need and an interest in pursuing studies in the visual arts.
The WWC Art Show’s hours are limited to: Saturday, April 28, 5 to 8 pm (Opening Reception) and Sunday, April 29, 2018, 12 to 4 pm. The Westport Woman’s Club is located at 44 Imperial Avenue, Westport. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted for purchases or donations.
Melissa Newman, accompanied by guitarist Tony Lombardozzi, will lend her voice on Saturday, singing jazz standards and songs from the Great American Songbook, to promote local art purchases and scholarships.

Staples Tuition Grant Turns 75 - Come Party
March 10th @7 details and tickets at link below
Ginkgo, a Fairfield restaurant, does not have a liquor license which is why we brought our own twelve-dollar bottle of wine to the restaurant last Friday night. We were astounded to learn that they charge FIFTEEN DOLLARS to open your bottle of wine. Furious, we left. Now I wonder how they'd screw us if we'd brought our own cork screw and wine glasses.
I thought that the "06880" community might like my full length, unedited (mostly) aerial videos of Compo beach, Downtown and the Saugatuck area. I captured these videos mostly in 2017, and hope to capture more places around town very soon!
