Long-time Westport resident and therapist Joyce Colburn, LCSW, is now accepting new patients in her Westport-based therapy practice.
Joyce opened her practice in 1990, after receiving her MSW from Columbia University. Since then, she has been helping clients from adolescents to the elderly work through depression (including postpartum), anxiety, and marital and family issues, as well as addiction and recovery, career and life transitions, pre-teen and adolescent issues (for both children and parents), issues concerning the elderly, and post-traumatic stress (PTSD).
For the past several years, Joyce saw a limited number of patients as she pursued her love of oil painting, created and exhibiting a substantial body of work. She currently maintains a studio at SPAG in Norwalk.
“I found painting both relaxing and rewarding, but I missed the daily fulfillment of knowing that you’ve helped someone start to feel better about issues that are affecting their lives, issues that can be addressed and resolved with appropriate treatment. So I am welcoming new patients back into my practice.”
Joyce is a caring and pragmatic problem solver who will listen closely and partner with you to resolve your issues and help you move forward with your life. In her 20-plus years of practice, she has developed an empathic approach, focusing on her clients’ immediate need to restore emotional stability, while developing a realistic plan tailored to each person’s concerns.
“From the moment you walk into my office, we begin working on your specific issue(s). We focus quickly on your reasons for seeking therapy and together, as partners, we move forward to develop a plan that will enable you to start feeling better.”
Joyce’s credentials are verified by Psychology Today, Good Therapy, Marriage.com, and Network Therapy.
