Staples Play School
Two spots have opened up at the Staples Play School due to a family move. We have 12 children in class who are paired with high school seniors in a play-based environment. This is an award winning program open to three and four year old children. If you are interested in having your child attend the Staples Playschool, please contact: email@example.com.
Long-time Westport resident and therapist Joyce Colburn, LCSW, is now accepting new patients in her Westport-based therapy practice.
Joyce opened her practice in 1990, after receiving her MSW from Columbia University. Since then, she has been helping clients from adolescents to the elderly work through depression (including postpartum), anxiety, and marital and family issues, as well as addiction and recovery, career and life transitions, pre-teen and adolescent issues (for both children and parents), issues concerning the elderly, and post-traumatic stress (PTSD).
For the past several years, Joyce saw a limited number of patients as she pursued her love of oil painting, created and exhibiting a substantial body of work. She currently maintains a studio at SPAG in Norwalk.
“I found painting both relaxing and rewarding, but I missed the daily fulfillment of knowing that you’ve helped someone start to feel better about issues that are affecting their lives, issues that can be addressed and resolved with appropriate treatment. So I am welcoming new patients back into my practice.”
Joyce is a caring and pragmatic problem solver who will listen closely and partner with you to resolve your issues and help you move forward with your life. In her 20-plus years of practice, she has developed an empathic approach, focusing on her clients’ immediate need to restore emotional stability, while developing a realistic plan tailored to each person’s concerns.
“From the moment you walk into my office, we begin working on your specific issue(s). We focus quickly on your reasons for seeking therapy and together, as partners, we move forward to develop a plan that will enable you to start feeling better.”
Joyce’s credentials are verified by Psychology Today, Good Therapy, Marriage.com, and Network Therapy.

The Suzuki Music School of Westport is one of the country’s leading non-profit community music schools dedicated to the family oriented Suzuki method of music instruction! After 18 years in Westport the school will move to a wonderful new home in the center of Westport. From August 1st, 2016, the Suzuki schools will be open their 7000 square foot facility in the Colonial Green Complex at 246 Post Rd East, Westport, CT 06880. This central location will mark a turning point in the school’s role within the town.
The new building, located directly in the downtown business district will provide a large performance space, rehearsal space for musicians and teaching studios. The school hopes the venue will become a destination point for the arts and classical music in the town and is planning collaborations with the Westport Library, and the Westport Center for Senior Activities, among other leading arts institutions.
The School’s Director, Dr. Andrew Smith commented “Moving to a new home this Fall, comes after a busy 2015-16! This spring marked our second appearance at Carnegie Hall, NY, with 250 children of all ages playing to a packed hall. We couldn’t have imagined topping that but this great new building is unbelievable. This puts the school at the heart of the Westport music scene and we couldn’t be prouder. Whether or not you have children who are interested in music we would encourage music lovers everywhere to come to one of our events and see for themselves!”
