As part of WHS’ Holly Days Series in connection with the Holly Days exhibits, Westport Historical Society will present a Winter Solstice Story Telling on Friday night, Dec. 21, from 6 to 7 pm.
Once there was, and once there wasn’t… so begins the tales of ancient Persian storytellers, especially on the Winter Solstice when they told exciting stories to cheer gatherers on the year’s longest night. Throughout history the first day of winter has always been a time to gather and share a good tale while enjoying friendship and food. This year WHS revives the Winter Solstice tale-telling tradition and we invite you to join us for some cheer as we follow the Yule traditions and honor the Winter Solstice. Help us keep this lively tradition going by taking part in reading a story we’ve selected or bring your own to share. You’ll also hear about the origin of celebrations around the world associated with the winter holidays.
Online pre-registration $8 for members, $12 for non-members. At the door $10 suggested admission for members, $15 for non-members. Students $5 with ID. No charge for children 5 and under. Reservations are recommended, register online at www.westporthistory.org or call (203) 222-1424 x5.
