On Friday, October 4, from 7:00 to 11:00pm, at the Weston Field Club, CT Theater Dance Company is holding its annual Gala to raise funds for the Encore Youth Scholarship, a tuition-assisted dance program which has awarded over $300,000 in dance education scholarships to aspiring young dancers in Fairfield County.
Moonlight Masquerade a masked-costume ball where spirits, hors d'oeuvres, pâtisseries, and dancing await; guests are invited to flaunt their favorite alter ego fantasies while mingling in the moonlight and enjoying spirits with the spirits as they prepare to haunt the dance floor. Expect to be surprised and haunted by the Company’s newest creation, Once Upon a Dark Night, as you feel the feathers of Poe’s Raven, make way as Ichabod Crane stumbles by, and watch out for the estranged Hall-Brooke Sanitarium Director as she comes back with a vengeance-- all while witches, vampires, and a few Stranger Things lurk about.
“I cannot wait to see my guests dressed in costume, so they’re an actual part of the evening’s theatrics! Dancers aren’t up on stage, they’re dancing around and through the dance floor… guests are literally a part of the performance as they are completely immersed in the action,” says Artistic Director, Michelle Sperry.
Once Upon a Dark Night will premiere the full-length, stage performance at Westport Town Hall on Saturday, October 5th at 4:30pm. Associate Director Jade Primicias has been working closely with Westport Historical Society on a collection of pieces inspired by Westport’s own haunted history, from the Connecticut Witch Panic of the 1600s to an unnerving sanitarium takeover in 1982.
“We’re excited to premiere our original ballet, bringing classic Halloween folklore to life, with sprinklings of pop-culture and local history throughout,” says Ms. Primicias.
In its fourth performing season, CT Theater Dance Company, Fairfield County’s emerging professional dance company, is a Westport 501(c)3 that inspires New England audiences with accessible contemporary works incorporating the finest artistic ballet traditions and provides scholarships to local families for fine arts education.
